Meet the Duo

Joe and Shannon have been performing as the folk string duo Atlantic Harmony since 2023. Their 2024 summer recital series in Scotland raised over $1,500 for local charities. Their most recent concert in July 2025 raised $1,200 for the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia. They organized outreach performances for the Elgin Rotary club and a local school, and participated in a strings workshop for young musicians in the area. The duo is currently preparing new performances for summer 2025. Their repertoire consists primarily of Scottish and American folk music, including their own arrangements and arrangements by the coveted string duo Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas. The duo had the opportunity to meet and work with Fraser and Haas in Scotland last summer. Joe and Shannon have been married since July 2024 and reside in Cincinnati with their newly adopted dog, Melody.

About the Musicians

Shannon Mustard is a violinist from the northeast of Scotland. She is pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she serves as the graduate teaching assistant for Professor Timothy Lees. Shannon holds a Master’s degree from DePaul University and a Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin Conservatory.

Shannon is an active member of the Cincinnati freelance scene, playing frequently with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Lima Symphony Orchestra, and Richmond Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, Shannon was appointed as violinist and teaching artist for the Cincinnati String Project, which includes performing with the String Project Quartet and teaching in the free music education program.

Joe Kovac is a cellist and music educator from Macon, Georgia. He is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he is the teaching assistant to Alan Rafferty of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as Adjunct Instructor of Cello at Northern Kentucky University. An active performer, he plays with ensembles including the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, and Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Joe was a finalist for the 2023 Montgomery Symphony Orchestra Cello Fellowship and a fellow at the National Repertory Orchestra in 2021 and 2022. He hold degrees from Florida State University and Miami University.
